TUG LINE SELECTION

ONE SIZE DOES NOT FIT ALL
Selecting the right towing system is not a "one-size-fits-all" proposition. Each component of the system should be considered independently: mainline, backer line, pendant, chafe protection, hardware, etc. Based on your specific needs, each component is selected to give you the best overall system.
We understand the factors that weigh into the these decisions and will help you select the system to get the job done right, done safely, and give you the best value for your investment.

SAMSON UNDERSTANDS ABRASION
Samson knows how damaging abrasion is to synthetic towlines. Samson's R&D team has studied the mechanisms of abrasion and has worked continually to improve our products performance against them.
When you bring our most abrasion-resistant products onboard, you bring The Samson Advantage along with it. This means our application engineers and field technicians will:

  • Inspect your hardware and surfaces to advise you where the rope will meet the most abrasion
  • Work with you to smooth those surfaces
  • Be there to install the lines properly
  • Develop a program of residual strength testing
  • Determine inspection and retirement criteria
  • Train your crew on proper care, handling, and repair of the lines

Along the way, you'll be able to refer to your customized rope manual and you'll have access to the best customer service in the industry.

MAINLINES: JACKETED VS. NON-JACKETED
Jacketed Lines are commonly used as mainlines worldwide and are perceived as having a longer service life because of the jacket and core construction. However, some users of these lines find that the jacket breaks or wears faster than the core, resulting in the need to replace the entire line.

The advantages of non-jacketed lines are numerous:

  • They are stronger than jacketed lines size for size and they are easy to inspect and repair.
  • Only the chafe protection on a non-jacketed rope has to be replaced, saving time and significant investment.
  • They are lighter in weight than jacketed lines

A 100% Dyneema® 12-strand line with 100% Dyneema® chafe protection provides the ultimate in cut and abrasion resistance, and the rope maintains its strength, resulting in the long-term value you need to get the job done.

THE DYNAMIC DUO

The ultimate in abrasion resistance is to use Saturn-12
with Saturn Dynalene. While Saturn-12 provides internal
abrasion resistance, Saturn Dynalene protects against
external abrasion, where Saturn-12 comes in direct contact
with the harsh surfaces on most tug vessels.
